Let's talk about climate solutions - City of Calgary Climate Strategy Engagement

Join our workshop for middle- and low-income renters, on bringing an equity focus to the City of Calgary’s Climate Strategy update

The City of Calgary wants to hear from middle- and low-income renters on bringing climate equity into the next update of its Climate Strategy and Action Plans.

In this engagement series, we are seeking to hear from people who are:

  • • renters in the City of Calgary,

  • • with middle- and low-income, and particularly,

  • • those from equity-deserving communities(1)

Participants will have the opportunity to discuss how equity-deserving groups are impacted by climate change, and what resources and supports people and communities need to address climate change in an equitable way. We will also seek input on ways to ensure that the updated plans will minimize harms and maximize climate action benefits.

Calgary’s Climate Strategy and Action Plans, initially approved by City Council in 2018, are being updated in 2022 to reflect the latest climate science, international and national obligations, and feedback received from Calgarians. The updated strategy will identify critical actions, tools and programs needed in the next five years to:

  • • reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050;

  • • reduce the impacts of climate change on the health and wellness of Calgarians;

  • • reduce the impacts of climate change on the economy, social systems, infrastructure and natural ecosystems;

  • • integrate climate equity; and

  • • support a low carbon economy.
