Celebrating Mini Summit 2023 - The Next Generation: What's Emerging in our Communities?
On June 14, 2023 more than eighty Community Development Practitioners gathered on Zoom for our third annual Mini Summit. Over the course of three hours everyone had the opportunity to participate in three sessions out of nine offerings, and we spent some time making sense of our collective learning as well as sharing gratitude before closing out the gathering.
To compliment the learning, we created this miro board to capture the key learnings people contributed to the board themselves or shared in the chat following each session. Many of the links are clickable in the Miro board, or you can view a pdf version here.

Session One
Planet Youth
This session was hosted by staff from organizations partnering within Planet Youth Calgary - Shelina Bata, Sesen Solomon, Camille Losier, Edore Ossai, Kimberly Van Patten. View the session below.
Viewers will learn about Planet Youth, an Icelandic primary prevention model to reducing substance use rates amongst youth. Participants will learn about how the model is being implemented in Calgary and how we aim to take a collaborative, community-based approach to address the social and environmental causes of substance use and discuss evidence-based strategies we can implement in our communities.

Often times when we think about Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility (EDIA), we think about Human Resources or People and Culture, but what if we applied the same thought process to service design and program development? Understanding the importance of youth social inclusion through sport and education as a preventative measure for crime and poverty. Social exclusion is often what drives people into poverty. Through sport, education and youth mentorship, we are removing barriers and providing support for youth to participate and succeed.
