August 2024 CD Practitioner Gathering Harvest - CDLI

On Wednesday August 14th we hosted our eighth gathering for community development practitioners of 2024!

We had two discussion topics for practitioners to choose from. See our shared harvest here or in the slides below. If you have a topic in mind that you would like to discuss with other community development practitioners please let us know and we will include it in a future COP date that works for you.

In the share back participants identified key take away/points of reflection that came from the conversations.

1) When community initiatives are co-designed from the start you don’t need to build community buy in, it is already there. Co-design includes shared decision making throughout.

2) Gender sensitive vs. gender responsive - move beyond just “tolerance” to make actionable change.

3) Reflect on your position of power - what are you doing today with that power to make actionable change?

Questions identified for next steps or where we need to go next were:

1) How do we address larger structural issues that may prevent/limit community involvment?

2) How do we hold funders and systems accountable to the needs of community when they are shared with us through trusting relationships?

CDLI looks forward to welcoming Community Development Practitioners (paid or volunteers) again on September 11th for our next Community of Practice Open Space Gathering. Dates for the year as well as information on what the open space gathering experience is like are in the graphic below.
