National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Reflections

How are you honouring the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation?

On Monday the Anti-Racism and Decolonization Learning and Action Team gathered over lunch for our September meeting. We took turns sharing our plans for the day, and some of our favourite resources, and we wanted to share them with all of you!

Actions for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation:

  • Donate your wage for the day towards supporting reconciliation

  • Attending a work event to celebrate the day and educate staff

  • Providing mutual aid

  • Engaging with the USAY’s Indigitrails app

  • Participating in some online mini courses offered by Ta7taliya Michelle Nahanee

  • Attending a workplace film screening and discussion

  • Participating in a workplace donation matching opportunity

  • Watching CIFF films by Indigenous creators, including Kimmapiiyipitssini: The Meaning of Empathy, and Returning Home

  • Writing letters to elected officials and municipal candidates about the importance of implementing the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action

  • Supporting a live event happening to honour the day

  • Creating space around grief and ceremony to remember the ones that have been lost

  • Reflecting on learnings and how to further decolonize work

  • Hold people, businesses, and organizations who aren’t honouring this day accountable

  • Continue the practice of amplifying Indigenous voices and calls to action
