National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Reflections
How are you honouring the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation?
On Monday the Anti-Racism and Decolonization Learning and Action Team gathered over lunch for our September meeting. We took turns sharing our plans for the day, and some of our favourite resources, and we wanted to share them with all of you!
Actions for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation:
Donate your wage for the day towards supporting reconciliation
Attending a work event to celebrate the day and educate staff
Providing mutual aid
Engaging with the USAY’s Indigitrails app
Participating in some online mini courses offered by Ta7taliya Michelle Nahanee
Attending a workplace film screening and discussion
Participating in a workplace donation matching opportunity
Watching CIFF films by Indigenous creators, including Kimmapiiyipitssini: The Meaning of Empathy, and Returning Home
Writing letters to elected officials and municipal candidates about the importance of implementing the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action
Supporting a live event happening to honour the day
Creating space around grief and ceremony to remember the ones that have been lost
Reflecting on learnings and how to further decolonize work
Hold people, businesses, and organizations who aren’t honouring this day accountable
Continue the practice of amplifying Indigenous voices and calls to action
