CERA is seeking tenant leaders to advance housing rights

The Centre for Equality Rights in Accommodation (CERA), a non-profit organization working to advance the right to adequate housing in Canada, is currently seeking 10-15 tenant leaders in Calgary to participate in our Implementing the Right to Housing leadership training with an online training workshop on October 15, 2022. Participants in this training will learn about the right to housing, how it relates to their advocacy work as a tenant leader and how to exercise their rights. We hope that by gaining this knowledge the tenant leaders can share it with their communities to advance the right to housing in their region. The goals of this workshop are to increase knowledge of the right to housing, build capacity and understanding of housing policy and policy processes, and to increase community participation in housing-related decisions.

After receiving the leadership training, if tenant leaders want to hold their own workshop for their communities, CERA will support them in doing so. CERA's goal is to support the leaders and build their capacity to mobilize their community members to advocate for their right to housing. This will include logistical support as well as educational materials, including how-to guides and community-specific toolkits. As part of this project, CERA also plans to support communities interested in making a submission to the Federal Housing Advocate.
