Creating Just Futures Reflection - Zine Making Workshop
On June 29th, I had the opportunity to participate in a Zine Making Workshop hosted by Vibrant Communities Calgary at the Women’s Centre. The workshop centered around the theme of "Building Enough for All Futures" and aimed to amplify diverse voices while fostering conversations on positive changes within our communities that can build a brighter and more inclusive future.
The workshop delved into what a future that is "Enough for All" entails, prompting us to consider the social and environmental factors necessary for communities to thrive. Discussions on justice, one of the ten levers of change, resonated deeply with me, particularly in relation to anti-racism and the efforts of the Creating Just Futures (CJF) initiative at CDLI.
Creating a just future requires dismantling systemic barriers and fostering collective initiative. It became clear through the workshop that meaningful change is rooted in collaborative efforts and addressing the structural inequalities that hinder progress.
Overall, the Zine Making workshop was a thought-provoking experience that highlighted the importance of collective action in creating a future where justice and equity prevail. It reinforced my commitment to learning more about initiatives like CJF and actively participating in efforts to build a more just and inclusive society.
