November 2024 Practitioner Gathering Harvest - CDLI
On Wednesday November 13th CDLI hosted the eleventh gathering for community development practitioners of 2024!
We had three discussion topics for practitioners to choose from and practitioners chose to engage in two of them. See our shared harvest here or in the slides below. If you have a topic in mind that you would like to discuss with other community development practitioners please let us know and we will include it in a future COP date that works for you.
In the share back participants identified key take away/points of reflection that came from the conversations.
1) What are the hard conversations you are navigating as part of your work right now?
How to encourage and build solidarity among people in all aspects of community from colleagues to community members?
Opportunities for people to share and connect on a common level of humanity (meals, local events, programs for making connections, etc.)
Awareness building to try to eliminate stereotypes
Media plays a large role - needs to be integrity in information dissemination
2) Moving beyond programs. What are the most successful ways to make connections and maintain engagement in communities?
People want to connect. Events are of interest the question is how to build stronger connections following events.
Non-profits may want to consider alternatives to programming.
